National Museum of Archeology
The National Museum of Archeology in Lisbon contains the most important archaeological collection in Portugal. The museum is located in the building next to the Jeronimos Monastery.
The museum was founded in 1893 by José Leite de Vasconcelos and has objects ranging from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. In its beginnings its name was Museum Ethnographic Portuguese.
Collections
Among the stones, gold objects, coins and vessels we especially liked the rooms dedicated to Egypt and Islam.
If you have visited Egypt these rooms will bring you many memories. In them you can see from real mummies of people and animals to a collection of impressive old photographs.
